Four people, including a Children & Youth Service worker, were charged in an abuse case involving a 16 year old girl in Wyoming County. According to reports, the girl, who is identified in filings only by her initials, was flown to Geisinger Medical Center near Danville once authorities removed her from the house in Meshoppen where they say she lived in deplorable conditions. The girl weighed 28 pounds and was covered in bedsores when she was hospitalized. Those charged are the girl's mother, Ashley Brewer, grandmother, Deborah Graham; and father, William Schuster, and CYS case worker Gerald K. Pender, who was assigned to her family in January 2024 because her siblings were truant. Pender is a mandated reporter and authorities say he "failed to check on the well being" of the child as required by law. Brewer, Schuster and Pender are due back in court May 20 for a preliminary hearing. Graham is scheduled for a court appearance on June 3.
