DUNMORE, PA – A Lackawanna County community was the target of federal immigration action this week. Some Dunmore residents express shock after a resident and his young, elementary school-aged daughter were detained Wednesday morning.

Neighbors in Dunmore reported that the operation took place around 7:45 a.m. on North Webster Avenue. Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents stopped the man, identified only as "Carlos," who was believed to be heading to work. Carlos had reportedly lived in Dunmore for approximately six years with his daughter. Both were ultimately taken into custody by ICE.

The operation was conducted without any prior warning or notification to local law enforcement. Dunmore Police were not made aware of the action until after the father and daughter were detained.

Later on Wednesday, Dunmore Mayor Max Conway met with ICE agents when they brought the man’s daughter to the borough building.

As of the latest reports, there has been no comment provided by the Dunmore Police Department, the local school district, or Immigration and Customs Enforcement regarding the detentions.
