Jermyn Borough officials will host a town hall meeting this evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Jermyn Community Center on Jefferson Avenue to address growing resident concerns over a surge of proposed data centers. The borough is currently surrounded by plans for 30 data centers across four separate campuses, all located within just over a mile of Jermyn’s border. The proximity of these industrial-sized projects has prompted local leaders to formally share the borough’s position and provide a forum for the community to discuss potential impacts on local infrastructure and quality of life.

The largest of these proposals comes from Archbald I LLC, which plans to construct an 18-building campus just north of Staback Park in neighboring Archbald. A second, smaller campus from the same developer is slated for the area near Gibson and Lackawanna streets, which would place four data centers directly on the Jermyn border and include a dedicated access road onto Lackawanna Street. Additionally, a seven-building development known as Project Gravity would partially border the town, further increasing the density of the proposed industrial footprint.

Local residents have expressed significant apprehension regarding the environmental and utility demands of these facilities, specifically citing concerns over noise levels, high water consumption, and potential increases in electricity rates. While developers and state officials have highlighted the potential for tax revenue and job creation, tonight's meeting is expected to focus on the immediate geographical impact on Jermyn. Borough officials intend to use the session to clarify how these bordering projects in Archbald might affect Jermyn's municipal services and residential neighborhoods.
