SCRANTON, PA—A panel of Lackawanna County judges has selected Brenda Sacco, the former director of the county's Economic Development department, to serve as interim county commissioner.
Sacco will replace Matt McGloin, who resigned from his position in February. She is scheduled to be officially sworn in today shortly before noon.
Her appointment is temporary, as a special election to fill the remainder of McGloin’s term has been scheduled for November 4th, coinciding with the municipal election. This special election will determine who will hold the commissioner seat until the next regular election cycle. Whether the special election will happen hinges on a lawsuit to stop it initiated by the Lackawanna County Democrat Executive Committe and two the people they recommended be vetted by the judges. A hearing on that is slated for next week.
