The new Lackawanna County Board of Commissioners narrowly approved an agreement to cover the pay of law enforcement officers stationed at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP). This decision follows the lead of neighboring Luzerne County, with whom Lackawanna will share a portion of the cost. However, the commissioners opted to table a vote on the county’s proposed 2026 budget, delaying the decision until December 17. This delay was prompted by uncertainty regarding the county's potential electricity costs for the upcoming year, which officials need more time to quantify. It also allows the newest commissioner, Thom Welby, additional time to review the proposed spending plan, which was finalized before he officially took office.
