The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will close the Linden Street Bridge in Scranton starting Wednesday, May 6, 2026. The bridge, which spans the Lackawanna Railroad Authority tracks and the Lackawanna River between 7th Avenue and Mifflin Street, is scheduled to remain closed through the end of the year for a $6 million rehabilitation project. According to PennDOT officials, the 50-year-old structure has reached the end of its useful life and requires a sub-structure rehabilitation and repairs to its deck and sidewalk to ensure continued safety.

While the bridge will be closed to all vehicular traffic, pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. Motorists who typically use the Linden Street Bridge, which carries approximately 4,500 vehicles per day, are advised to follow a posted detour using 7th Avenue and Lackawanna Avenue. This project is part of a record-breaking $655 million infrastructure investment planned for northeastern Pennsylvania this year, largely funded by federal contributions.
