Polling places in Luzerne County will remain open until 10 p.m. on this election day as ordered by Judge Lisa Gelb following the requests of acting election director Beth McBride and County manager Randy Roberson.
The extension was sought as voting had ground to a halt in nearly three dozen precincts across Luzerne County due to paper shortages for printing electronic ballots.
Polling places have been instructed to offer voters the opportunity to vote on paper provisional and emergency ballots. However, there is also a concern the county will run low on provisional ballots.
Attorneys and chairs of both Republican and Democratic county parties are participating in the court proceeding.
