SILVER LAKE TWP., PA — A Brackney man faces criminal homicide and related charges following a fatal domestic dispute at a residence along Donovan Road in Silver Lake Township.
Pennsylvania State Police at Gibson filed charges against 46-year-old Michael Sean Jones in connection with the death of 76-year-old Andrea Vail. Troopers were dispatched to the home shortly after 3:15 p.m. Wednesday after a relative performing a welfare check discovered Vail’s body inside a bedroom.
According to an arrest affidavit, investigators determined that an argument broke out between Jones and Vail on Tuesday evening. During the dispute, Jones allegedly assaulted Vail repeatedly, inflicting severe blunt-force trauma before placing her in a bedroom. An autopsy conducted by county coroners confirmed Vail died from multiple traumatic injuries.
Following the discovery of Vail's body Wednesday, Jones ingested a large quantity of pills in a suicide attempt. He was transported across the state line to UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, New York, where he remains hospitalized under police supervision as authorities process extradition proceedings back to Pennsylvania.
In addition to criminal homicide, Jones is charged with abuse of a corpse, aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, and drug-related offenses.
