PLAINS TWP., PA — A 57-year-old Nanticoke woman has died after being struck by multiple vehicles in a pedestrian crash along Route 315 in Plains Township on Monday morning.
Luzerne County Coroner Dion Fernandes identified the victim as Tara David. Emergency services and the coroner’s office were dispatched just before 7:00 a.m. to the southbound lanes of Route 315, directly in front of the Dairy Queen and near the Mohegan Pennsylvania complex. David was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Plains Township Police Chief Dale Binker, dense fog and dark conditions at the time of the crash likely contributed to the incident. While drivers who initially struck David remained at the scene to cooperate with law enforcement, investigators noted that heavy fog and low visibility may have caused other passing motorists to strike the victim without realizing it.
Route 315 was closed for several hours between the Mohegan Pennsylvania entrance and surrounding intersections while reconstruction specialists and crash investigators documented the scene. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or drove through the area around 7:00 a.m. to contact the Plains Township Police Department at 570-829-3432 or dial 911.
