The McDade Park swimming pool in Lackawanna County will remain closed this summer due to ongoing leak problems tied to a 2023 renovation.
County officials announced the closure Monday while filing a lawsuit against D&M Construction Unlimited, the contractor awarded nearly $3 million to upgrade the pool and build a new bathhouse. Officials say the pool was leaking up to 12 inches of water per day when turned over last August, and repairs made this spring failed to fix the issue.
The lawsuit also cites drainage problems around the new bathhouse. The county claims D&M refused to make further repairs without a new contract.
D&M denies wrongdoing and has filed for arbitration, seeking unpaid funds. The county is also pursuing action against the project's bonding company, Old Republic Surety Co.
The pool also opened late last summer due to leaks.
