LUZERNE COUNTY, PA — Luzerne County is moving forward on the critical Nanticoke/West Nanticoke Bridge replacement project, with the initial planning phase reaching a key milestone.
County Manager Romilda Crocamo provided an update Tuesday, confirming she will now issue monthly status reports on the project's progress.
The engineer hired to develop replacement options has completed the technical scope and determined a price for the project's first phase. This crucial information has been submitted and is currently under review by both the county administration and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).
The nearly century-old bridge was permanently closed in March due to advanced structural deterioration, rerouting thousands of daily commuters. Since the closure, the primary alternate route has been the nearby Route 29/South Cross Valley Expressway crossing, officially known as the John S. Fine Bridge.
