A 12-year-old boy who tragically drowned during a school field trip to the Pocono Mountains has been identified by authorities. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission reported that an inflatable raft carrying five individuals capsized on the Lehigh River along the D&L Trail at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. All of the occupants were ejected into the water, and while four individuals were quickly and safely recovered, the young victim failed to resurface.
Search and rescue teams, including local dive units, extensively combed the waters following the accident. The Carbon County Coroner's Office confirmed that the boy, identified as Cesar Albarracin Guncay of Sag Harbor, New York, was pulled from the river in the Lehighton area later that evening and pronounced dead. School officials confirmed that Guncay was a sixth-grade student participating in a large, annual class excursion that was accompanied by professional river guides. The state Fish and Boat Commission is currently leading the investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the capsizing.
