LUZERNE COUNTY, PA — A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 eastbound in Luzerne County early Thursday morning claimed the life of one person, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
The fatal incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. near the exit for Nescopeck Township. Authorities report that a car traveling eastbound on I-80 struck a truck that was parked on the highway's shoulder.
Following the impact, the car immediately caught fire. Investigators arriving at the scene later confirmed that the driver of the car was found dead inside the vehicle. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
The crash and subsequent investigation forced the complete closure of I-80 East near the Nescopeck exit for several hours, causing significant traffic delays for morning commuters. The road has since reopened.
