STATE COLLEGE, PA – In a move that solidifies the party's choice for the next gubernatorial race, Pennsylvania Republican insiders have formally endorsed State Treasurer Stacy Garrity in her bid to unseat Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro. The endorsement came during a vote held this weekend at the Penn Stater conference center.
Garrity, a 61-year-old retired Army Reserve colonel and a native of Bradford County, was the only candidate to seek the party's formal backing, making her endorsement all but certain. During her acceptance speech, Garrity highlighted her record as a "watchdog" for taxpayer money since taking office as Treasurer in 2020, promising to bring that same fiscal discipline to the governor's mansion.
“Help is on the way,” Garrity declared from the podium, using a phrase that has become a key part of her campaign slogan. “And with your help, we’ll make Pennsylvania a safer, a stronger and a more prosperous place to raise your family, and grow your business, today and for years to come.”
While the voice vote was not formally counted, a few "no" or "nay" votes were heard, indicating that the endorsement was not entirely unanimous.
