The City of Scranton and the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail are planning to construct the first pedestrian bridge over the Lackawanna River. According to reports, the bridge would link the popular path’s Seventh Avenue Trailhead to a proposed park across the river that Lackawanna County plans to create on a 7-acre, boomerang-shaped tract between the river and the Steamtown National Historic Site and Electric City Trolley Museum. The Lackawanna transit intermodal center also fronts Steamtown and the trolley museum. The two projects — a pedestrian bridge being done jointly by the city and Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority, and a park being done by the county — are separate and advancing on separate tracks.
