PPL Electric Utilities is holding a public open house tonight at the Montdale Country Club from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to discuss major infrastructure upgrades planned for Lackawanna County. The meeting focuses on the Archbald Mountain and Callender Gap & Sturges projects, which involve building a new substation and installing eight miles of high-voltage transmission lines. These upgrades are intended to improve grid reliability and meet the rising demand for electricity in the region, particularly as local interest in large-scale data center developments grows.
The proposed transmission lines will be supported by steel monopoles standing between 120 and 150 feet tall and will require a 250-foot-wide right-of-way corridor through several local boroughs and townships. Representatives from PPL will be available throughout the evening to show project maps, explain the construction timeline, and discuss how the project might affect private property. If the plan receives state approval, construction is expected to start in mid-2027 and continue through 2030.
