ARCHBALD, PA — Property owners in the Valley View School District will soon receive lower, corrected tax statements after a software calculation error inflated the district's initial school tax bills.
The error occurred during the district's first billing cycle under Lackawanna County’s newly updated property values, following the county's first comprehensive reassessment in nearly six decades.
Valley View Business Manager Corey Castellani explained that the programming error miscalculated the tax formula, inadvertently inflating the district’s millage rate by nearly a full point. As a result, initial bills sent to residents in Archbald, Blakely, and Jessup reflected significantly higher amounts than intended.
District officials confirmed that the software glitch has been resolved and the corrected, lower tax bills have already been processed for mailing.
Homeowners across the Valley View School District should expect to receive their updated tax statements in the mail within the next few days.
