A severe propane leak caused a violent house explosion in Wayne County on Thursday morning, injuring three people and sparking a massive fire that destroyed multiple homes.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the incident began around 10:00 a.m. along Sensentine Road in the Elk Lake community of Clinton Township, near Waymart. Investigators believe a leak in a 100-pound propane cylinder outside one of the properties initially ignited, triggering a primary blast that subsequently caused two adjacent propane tanks to detonate.

The consecutive explosions sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, causing a total of nine homes to sustain varying degrees of damage. The structural impact was so severe that two of the homes completely collapsed and were reduced to rubble.

Three residents were rushed to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment following the blast. Among the injured was an 84-year-old woman who was inside her kitchen when the initial explosion occurred, and a 63-year-old man who managed to escape by climbing out of a window. Authorities have not yet released an official update on their medical conditions. Numerous fire crews from across northeastern Pennsylvania responded to battle the resulting heavy flames and intense heat.
