Recovery efforts continue from the 6 inches of rain that fell on September 9th. in parts of Scranton and the Abingtons remain works in progress. The heavy rains overwhelmed creeks, roads, motorists and homeowners, and were responsible for the deaths of a couple who got trapped in their car in the tunnel on Shady Lane Road in South Abington Twp. by rushing runoff from Summit Lake Creek.  Teams from the city county state and federal levels will begin a a “joint public damage assessment,” by visiting areas of damage. To qualify for FEMA funding, affected municipalities would have to meet a threshold of damage of about $23 million. With Scranton alone having an estimated $6 million in damage to infrastructure, not including flooded homes, it appears that the area might meet the threshold.
