A Washington, D.C.-area radio station has fired a host who made sexist on-air remarks about longtime former WNEP-TV anchor Sharla McBride. McBride, who started as a sports reporter and weekend sports anchor at WNEP in 2008, later served as an evening news anchor before leaving the local station in 2020 is currently working as a sports and news anchor/reporter for WUSA9. Radio host Michael Sorce, known on air as Don Geronimo, was fired Saturday by WBIG-FM for disparaging comments he made about McBride last week at Washington Commanders training camp, referring to McBride as “Barbie girl” and said “I’m guessing she’s a cheerleader.”  The Commanders banned Sorce and his producer, Crash Young, from the team facility following the comments. McBride said in a statement that the comments made her feel “incredibly insulted and embarrassed.” “In my 17 years as a professional journalist, I have never been disrespected in such a blatant manner while trying to do my job,” her statement continued. “Their words were sexist and misogynistic. No woman should experience this in the workplace, and I appreciate the Commanders’ swift response in handling this matter.”
