A Scranton man faces child endangerment charges after his 10-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the hand with an unsecured handgun on Tuesday night. Authorities reported that emergency responders rushed the child to the hospital around 9:00 p.m. following the shooting at a home along Cherry Street. The bullet passed entirely through the boy's left hand, and medical officials stated that the young victim is currently in stable condition.

Following an investigation, city police arrested the child's father, 56-year-old Michael A. Lemongello, after determining that the pistol had been left out within the boy's reach. Lemongello was taken before Magisterial District Judge Alyce Hailstone Farrell for arraignment, where he was subsequently released on $20,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing to face the criminal charges is tentatively scheduled for June 2.
