A Scranton man is in police custody at a hospital after an investigation into a Thursday night homicide in Monroe County.
Police say Yasim McDonald is in custody and charged with the June 18th homicide of Layzon Breland, according to Pocono Mountain Regional Police Chief Chris Wagner in a press release.
Police were dispatched to a house around 8 pm Thursday on Chelsea Circle in Coolbaugh Township for the report of a person with a gunshot wound.
Police say they were told Breland was in a fight with an unknown man in the front yard before retreating inside.
Witnesses told police Breland armed himself with a gun, and a gunfight began when the man chased after him inside.
Wagner said Breland was struck several times and succumbed to his injuries, while the other man was also struck before fleeing in a white car.
Around 20 minutes later, police say a white car dropped off McDonald with a gunshot wound at a Scranton hospital.
Following the execution of several search warrants and DNA analysis, Wagner said police determined McDonald’s association with the fight, and he was charged with homicide.
McDonald is currently hospitalized in Pocono Mountain Regional Police custody after he was denied bail.
