Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti plans to introduce changes to the city's zoning ordinance, aiming to increase flexibility for local hospitals, specifically for the Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC) campus.

The proposed ordinance, set to be introduced at the Scranton City Council meeting on Thursday, November 13, focuses on unifying disparate zoning districts adjacent to GCMC on Mulberry Street.

Key Proposed Changes

The area immediately surrounding GCMC on Mulberry Street is currently designated as Civic.

The proposal would change portions of the adjacent 200 and 400 blocks of Colfax Avenue from their current Town-City Institutional designation to the matching Civic designation.

This unification is intended to streamline regulations and support GCMC's operational and expansion needs.

A public hearing on the matter is scheduled for Tuesday, December 9, allowing residents to voice their opinions before the City Council is expected to take a final vote on the ordinance.
