The swimming area at Ricketts Glen State Park is back open, one week after it was shut down due to high bacteria levels.
Park officials announced the reopening Thursday, saying, “We have just received good water results back and the beach will be reopening as of now. Thanks for your patience,” in a post on the park’s Facebook page.
The closure was prompted by routine water testing on July 17, which revealed dangerously high levels of bacteria in the water. While swimming was not permitted during the closure, other areas of the park—including the picnic area, beach, and boat rental facilities—remained open to visitors.
The popular state park, located in Luzerne County, is known for its waterfalls, trails, and lakefront recreation. Officials thanked the public for their understanding during the temporary closure.
