The Lackawanna County Department of Elections and Voter Registration announced they began mailing absentee and mail ballots to county registered voters on Monday. The department also installed ballot “drop boxes” at six secure locations where voters may deposit the ballots if they choose not to mail them at the following locations:  Lackawanna County Government Center, 123 Wyoming Ave., Scranton, the Fallbrook Senior Community Center in Carbondale, The Clarks Summit Borough Building, 304 State St., Clarks Summit, The Dickson City Borough Building, 901 Enterprise St., Dickson City, The Moosic Borough Building, 715 Main St., Moosic, and the Roaring Brook Twp. Municipal Building, 430 Blue Shutters Road, Roaring Brook Twp. All of the boxes will be under around-the-clock video surveillance. The department will accept mail or absentee ballots until the polls close at 8 p.m. on November 5.

Luzerne County should start issuing Nov. 5 general election mail ballots within a week to voters who requested them, county Election Director Emily Cook said Monday.  Updates on voter registration counts and processing also were released Monday. The county’s five-citizen election board unanimously approved the ballot Monday morning — a step necessary to print mail ballots and program the ballot marking devices used at polling places. More than 26 thousand voters have requested mail ballots to date, according to a figure released last week. Returned voter-completed mail ballots must be physically in the bureau by 8 p.m. on Nov. 5, and postmarks do not count.
