NEW MILFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — A devastating off-road vehicle accident claimed the lives of two teenagers and left a third critically injured in Susquehanna County on Wednesday afternoon.
Pennsylvania State Police at Gibson reported that the crash occurred shortly before 3:00 p.m. off the west berm of Butterfield Road, roughly 500 feet north of East Shore Drive.
According to state troopers, 18-year-old Taryn Briggs of New Milford was operating a 2025 Can-Am Defender side-by-side utility vehicle with two young passengers aboard when the vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree.
The impact ejected Briggs and a 13-year-old passenger from Springville. The 13-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. State police have not yet released the victim's name publicly.
Briggs was transported to Endless Mountain Health Systems in Montrose, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
A second passenger, a 12-year-old girl, sustained serious injuries in the collision. She was rushed to Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in Johnson City, New York, for emergency medical treatment.
State police troopers continue to investigate the cause and circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
