Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to visit West Pittston on Wednesday to celebrate what the Trump campaign is calling “the greatest legislation for American workers in history.”
The event will take place at Don’s Machine Shop, located at 777 Ash Street. Doors open at 11 a.m., and Vice President Vance is set to deliver remarks at 1 p.m.
The visit comes on the heels of President Donald Trump signing into law the “One Big Beautiful Bill” — a sweeping piece of legislation that narrowly passed the U.S. House of Representatives last week with a 218-214 vote. The bill has been touted by Republicans as a major victory for the working class, though it has drawn sharp criticism from Democrats.
Both of Northeast Pennsylvania’s Republican congressmen — Rep. Dan Meuser and Rep. Rob Bresnahan Jr. — voted in favor of the bill.
Critics, including Gov. Josh Shapiro and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Suzan DelBene, argue the law will result in harmful cuts to healthcare and food programs that support families and children. “It rips away health care and food access from millions of children and families — all to pay for massive tax breaks for their billionaire campaign donors,” DelBene said in a statement. Shapiro added the bill could have “devastating impacts on Pennsylvania.”
