Wilkes-Barre investigators are working to confirm the identity of a female found dead behind a garage on Thayer Street this past Saturday. While Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce stated that the remains have not yet been fully identified, he confirmed that the investigation into a nearby apartment building on New Alexander Street has linked parties at that address to the case of La’Niyah Clark. Clark is a 15-year-old girl who has been missing from the area since mid-January, and the proximity of the discovery to her last known disappearance has put the community on high alert.

An autopsy was conducted Tuesday morning to provide more clarity, though officials report that a definitive cause of death has not yet been determined. Despite the grim discovery, Wilkes-Barre Police have classified the case as an isolated incident, reassuring the neighborhood that there is no ongoing threat to the general public. Law enforcement continues to process evidence from both the Thayer Street site and the New Alexander Street apartment, and they are urging anyone with information regarding the circumstances of the case or the disappearance of La’Niyah Clark to contact the department immediately.
