A three hour hearing yesterday in Washington DC addressed the paper shortage in Luzerne County that closed polls during the general election this past November 8th. Testifying before the U.S. House Committee on House Administration, former Congressional candidate Jim Bognet said he heard many voters "left in disgust" because the paper shortage caused polls to be closed for hours at a time. He was a Republican candidate in the election running against Democratic incumbent Congressman Matt Cartwright. The committee is looking into what caused the paper shortage which in turn left long lines for voters to cast their ballots, extended poll hours into the evening and raised allegations that some were unable to cast their ballots. Three county officials declined to attend because of the ongoing investigation into the matter by the Luzerne County District Attorney.
