Since 1999, the Green Bay Packers have started six quarterbacks, and the only two with more than ten starts are Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre. In that same span, the New England Patriots have started eight, with Tom Brady getting the overwhelming bulk of those starts with 283. Ditto for the Giants, who enjoyed similar longevity from Eli Manning. The Chargers started nine different signal-callers, and it doesn't look like they'll have to worry about shifting around at the position for the foreseeable future with Justin Herbert shining early in his career.
That's 31 starting quarterbacks across those four organizations since 1999. That's impressive for each of those franchises, as they enjoyed consistency and continuity at the most position on the field for the large majority of this millennium. At the opposite end of the spectrum are the Cleveland Browns, who will total that same number — 31 starting quarterbacks since 1999 — when Case Keenum takes the field on Thursday night against the Denver Broncos as Baker Mayfield nurses a shoulder injury (h/t Michael David Smith of PFT).
This begs the question: how well do Browns fans remember the past two decades and the almost hard-to-believe amount of QB turnover in that span? Did we pay attention the whole way? Did we lose interest? Did we repress those traumatic memories of losing streaks, costly sacks and interceptions galore?
That's where Sporcle comes into play. The best trivia site on the whole internet — take my word for it, because I've tried out quite a few — has quizzes for every topic a sports fan could wish for. But instead of naming every member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, or recalling every NBA team's top scorer from the 1990s, or any of the other thousands of trivia challenges that are available, we're going to focus on our Browns. Keenum won't be included on the quiz, but all 30 of the other quarterbacks who started a game for Cleveland since 1999 will be on there. And I don't think it's too much of a spoiler to say that Mayfield, in only a few seasons, is pretty close to the top of the list.
Take the quiz here and challenge your friends! And when you're done... here's a little supplementary quiz to further grill you on the tough-to-stomach QB era of the 2000s-2010s Browns.
