Each August, the U.S. honors the success of Black entrepreneurship with the National Black Business Month campaign. Black Business Month is celebrated to acknowledge and appreciate Black-owned businesses and their contributions to our economy. Approximately 12% of all-American businesses are Black-owned, according to National Today. The primary industries in which Black-owned businesses operate include healthcare, social work, repair and maintenance, beauty salons, restaurants and more.

Todd sat down with Darla Harris and Kristina Sicard who are both senior business consultants. The primary focus of the Todd Talks segment was to focus on the JPMorgan Chase mentor program. This program is specifically designed for the minority business owner, who has owned and operated their business for at least two years. The Chase Mentorship Program is a three to
six months program and works to educate and empower small business owners.

When sitting down with Darla and Kristina, the consultants shared that two areas of focus are the “Power of Capital” and the category of the evolving digital marketing field. These two segments or key business areas that are on the forefront for all entrepreneurs and are important for young business owners to begin to work to implement these practices in their day to day workflow. Darla and Kristina also shared that 40% of black business owners are still looking for capital to run day to day practices. And although August is recognized for Black Business Month, our partners at JPMorgan Chase, work to help this segment of business owners all throughout the year. Some of the primary focus areas are: hiring, retention, mastering achieving needed capital
and marketing.
