Tekashi 6ix9ine was hospitalized earlier this week after the rapper had an adverse reaction to a mix of substances.
Tekashi, real name Daniel Hernandez, told The Shade Room he was hospitalized in Florida this past Tuesday after combining a cup of coffee with two Hydroxycut pills. Hydroxycut is a brand of dietary supplements that help aid in weight loss. The recommended daily dosage is one pill.
6ix9ine claimed he experienced an increased heart rate and began sweating excessively while in front of his computer. He’s since been discharged from the hospital and is currently at home.
The rapper says he was using Hydroxycut because of a significant weight gain he experienced while he was in prison. He mentioned that Hydroxycut and caffeine were the only substances in his system at the time of his overdose and he did not take any drugs. Tekashi says he doesn’t do drugs and if he did, it would violate his probation and send him back to prison.
He’s currently down almost 25 pounds since leaving prison and told The Shade Room his goal is to hit 150 pounds before returning to Instagram.
6ix9ine was recently the subject of a lengthy, eye-popping profile from the New York Times. During the interview, he said he was aware of his reputation and the public perception that surrounds him. At the same time, he was described as “alternating between remorse and what-about-isms,” and showed no indication he “might tone down the chaos.”
Perhaps the most noteworthy bit of the interview was when he compared himself to Tupac. When told Tupac “put art into the world in which he grappled with his demons, and tried to give back through his work saying, ‘I’ve done good, I’ve done bad, I want to be better,’” Tekashi’s response was, “and what am I doing?”
