Joe Cortese has been hooked on radio for as long as he can remember. Growing up in the Northeast, he’d spend hours tuned into New York powerhouses like WABC and WPLJ, soaking in the music and dreaming of being behind the mic himself. Along the way, he built up a razor-sharp knowledge of ’80s and ’90s hits—an encyclopedia (or maybe “Wikipedia” in today’s terms) of pop living in his head earning him the title: The Professor of Pop.
His big break came at Boston’s legendary WBMX, where he launched “Back to the ’80s Saturday Night.” That great local idea grew into the nationally syndicated Retro Pop Reunion, now celebrating 25 years of bringing the greatest hits of the video music era to great radio stations all across America.
When Joe isn’t quizzing his friends on Duran Duran trivia or rattling off Journey’s old tour stops, he’s at home with his wife Mary, cheering on their three grown kids, or out on the ballfield as an avid softball player and die-hard baseball fan. (Fair warning: if you try to stump him on baseball trivia, he’ll probably school you there too.)
So crank it up, sing along, and let The Professor of Pop—Joe Cortese—take you on a trip through the songs and stories of the ’80s and ’90s like nobody else can, on Retro Pop Reunion!
