Join the Human Relations Commission and Windsor Historical Society for an afternoon of joy, culture, and community starting at 4 PM. Enjoy family-friendly crafts, engaging story readings, lively performances, and delicious food from a fantastic local food truck. Come celebrate freedom, history, and togetherness with friends and neighbors! At 7 PM, remember the past with our annual Juneteenth firelight reading. This year we will read Lemuel Haynes' 1776 essay, "Liberty Further Extended". Born in West Hartford in 1753, Haynes was America's first Black ordained minister. In this response to the Declaration of Independence, Haynes argues against slavery, calls out the hypocrisy of American's war for "independence," and advocates for a better, freer future. The Manchester Lion Club is gearing up for its 17th annual Duck Race Fundraiser to be held on Saturday at Charter Oak Park at 50 Charter Oak St. in Manchester, Conn. At 2 p.m., hundreds of rubber ducks will be released to race down Birch Mountain Brook through the park. The family-friendly event will be held rain or shine. Tickets are $5 apiece for one or more ducks, and ducks can be purchased now in advance AND on site on race day. Cash prizes will be awarded for the first five ducks to cross the finish line: $1,000 for the first-place winning duck; $500 for second place; $250 for third place; $150 for fourth place; and $100 for fifth place. The Town of Cromwell Farmers Market takes place Friday evenings from 4–7pm at Riverport Park, now through September 4.
