BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - A man who authorities say was shot by a Connecticutpolice officer to stop him from stabbing another person has been charged withattempted murder and other crimes. Bridgeport police charged Juan Villa, 27, while he was being treated at ahospital for a gunshot wound to the right side of his torso, Hearst ConnecticutMedia reported Thursday. He is listed in good condition. The man who was stabbed suffered neck and facial wounds that were notlife-threatening, police said. Officers Eliud Henry and Sean Curran responded to a disturbance early Wednesdaymorning and saw Villa stabbing the man, acting Police Chief Rebeca Garcia said.One of the officers fired a stun gun at Villa, but it didn't work and Henry shotVilla, she said. A state prosecutor is investigating the shooting, and Henry and Curran havebeen put on administrative status under normal protocols, Garcia said. Villa's bail was set at $250,000 on the charges, which also includefirst-degree assault, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. It wasn't clearif he has a lawyer who could respond to the allegations.
