SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (WTIC) – Senator Richard Blumenthal met with leadership from Quantum Biopower to discuss the impact of The Clean Energy for America Act.
Blumenthal is a co-sponsor of the bill, which would address current insufficiencies in clean energy tax incentives by creating a set of long-term, performance based incentives for investments in food waste recycling.
Quantum Biopower is the only anaerobic digester facility on the east coast where each year, 40,000 tons of organic waste from Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts and New York are processed to produce biogas.
That biogas can then be used for electricity, renewable natural gas and transportation fuel.
The legislation would reinstate the food waste tax credit; which leaders of the company say will help the industry grow while addressing the current food waste problem nationwide.
According to experts, the U.S. produced 60 million tons of food waste last year. Of the 40,000 tons of food waste processed by Quantum Biopower, 25-30% goes back out in compost form to regrow more food.
The company promotes clean energy by producing biogas around the clock. Most importantly, the production is all natural and does not require chemicals harmful to the environment.
