(Wethersfield, Conn./WTIC) - Wethersfield police say a van they stopped Monday for a motor vehicle violation contained nearly two dozen dogs, a bird, and was filled with garbage and animal waste.
Officers say around 9:30 a.m., they stopped the Ford Transport van to investigate an unspecified violation.
Police say several small dogs were visible from within the front passenger compartment of the vehicle.
In all, 22 dogs and a macaw were seized, with help from Rocky Hill police and Newington police animal control officers.
The operator of the van was arrested and is now facing animal cruelty charges.
