SIMSBURY, Conn. (WTIC) - Dozens turned out for a Simsbury school board meeting last night after the Greater Hartford NAACP urged people to speak out against a recent social media post in which two high school girls appeared in blackface.
Superintendent Matt Curtis told the meeting school administrators small group discussions to help students process the incident, which they plan to continue in the future.
"We're in the business of teaching and learning, and one thing is for certain: feedback from parents, staff, and students are all in agreement that a review of our curriculum, from a vertical standpoint K-12, needs to be looked at and we need to ensure a multicultural approach."
Curtis said the process will take time. He also stated the girls involved apologized and were disciplined.
The Greater Hartford NAACP had urged people to pack the meeting, insisting the incident has repercussions beyond the town.
