Ex-School Resource Officers Sue Over Wrongful Termination

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Two former school resource officers say in a lawsuit the city of Bridgeport wrongfully terminated them twice.

The Connecticut Post reports that Jonathan Forestier and Stephen Vitka filed suit against the city on Monday, seeking lost earnings and benefits.

Vitka and Forestier are among a group of five officers assigned to city schools laid off in 2016 in a dispute over whether the board of education, rather than the city, should pay their salaries.

The officers, including Michael Bouchard, Dwayne Harrison and Jeffrey Babey, were reinstated after a panel concluded their jobs should have been protected.

The lawsuit states the plaintiffs performed the necessary steps to be reinstated only to be "immediately laid off."

Their lawyer, Thomas J. Weihing, and Bridgeport officials, declined comment on the lawsuit.
