(Waterbury, Conn./WTIC) - A bill passed in the General Assembly this past session now guarantees up to 52 weeks of workers compensation coverage for firefighters, police, and parole officers suffering from post traumatic stress after having witnessed a particularly horrific event.
There was a ceremonial bill signing at a firehouse in Waterbury today.
Waterbury Mayor Neil O'Leary, himself a former police officer and city police chief, says the effects of PTS are far-reaching and can impact family members.
Advocates say they'll work next session include EMS personnel and correction officers coverage under the measure.
