MILFORD, Conn. (AP) — The mayor of Milford has sidelined plans for a new police station, upsetting both the police chief and other officials.

Milford's aldermen voted in 2017 to buy land for a new police station, but Mayor Ben Blake said late last week he has "tapped the brakes" on the project. The Connecticut Post reports Blake says the city may revisit building a new station in a few years, but it would be a big expense right now.

City leaders voted to buy about six acres of land for $4.5 million for a new Milford police station. Police Chief Keith Mello says he'd hate to see the city let go of the site, and says the Milford police department's current station is too small and obsolete.
