HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - There's less sticker shock this year for Connecticut residents who get their health insurance through the state's public exchange.A year ago, 86 percent of Access Health Connecticut enrollees were facing premium hikes. This year, 53 percent are expecting reductions. That, according to numbers released Thursday during the exchange's board meeting. As a result, fewer people are shopping around for cheaper plans-- reflected in website traffic and call volume numbers, according to Robert Blundo, Access Health's director of technical operations and analytics.Website traffic is down 35 percent compared to last year and call center volume is lower by about seven percent, he said.So far, 20,000 customers have bought a policy for next year while 77,000 policies have yet to be renewed. The open enrollment deadline for coverage starting Jan. 1 is Dec. 15.
