HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Hartford Police make an arrest in connection with Sunday's early morning apartment fire that killed one apartment resident.
Authorities arrested Destiny Waite, 28, of Hartford in connection to the fire. According to Lieutenant Paul Cicero, the fire started during a physical domestic altercation when Waite allegedly assaulted her girlfriend by throwing a hand sanitzer bottle lit on fire at her.
City Police arrested Waite in Hartford's Frog Hollow neighborhood several hours after the fire. Investigators considered Waite a person of interest during early stages of the investigation.
Building resident Jerome Kyser, 50, was killed in the fire. Cicero says four building residents, two adults and two children, were sent to the hospital in critical condition. He says they are now in stable condition.
Several others were injured, including two firefighters who sustained minor injuries. More than 60 families have been displaced.
Waite faces charges of arson in the first degree, criminal attempt murder, and four counts of assault in the first degree.
A judge set bond at $900,000. Waite was arraigned on Monday in Hartford.
