Westport, Conn. (WTIC) - The Bayberry Lane Bridge over the Aspetuck River will be closed for two days beginning January 7.

Peter Ratkiewich, the Public Works Director, announced the closure will start at 6 a.m. and lasts until 5 p.m.  The cause for the closure is to conduct soil borings in preparation for the replacement of the bridge.

The Bayberry Lane Bridge is eligible for replacement under the Federal Local Bridge Program administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.  Only 20% of the bridge's cost will be paid with municipal funds.  The other 80% will be through reimbursement from federal aid.

Federal aid for the project was authorized under the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act.  The act was administered by the Federal Highway Administration and the Connecticut DOT.

Project design has started and is expected to be completed by 2020, while construction for the bridge is expected in 2021.  Anyone seeking additional information is asked to contact the Westport Public Works Department at (203) 341-1120.

The closure is weather dependent and signage will be posted.
