BRISTOL, Conn. (WTIC) - Two Bristol Police Department Officers have been awarded the lifesaving commendation and named police officers of the year for their quick response in saving a man's life last summer.

Officer Zachary Levine and Officer Dustin Demonte were recognized for their efforts in saving the life of a man in cardiac arrest in June of 2018.  The incident occurred the morning of June 14th when Officer Levine responded to a medical call on Goodwin Street.  An early report indicated that a man was in a locked bathroom and not responding to his wife.

Officer Levine entered the bathroom and found the male victim unconscious and in cardiac arrest.  He began CPR and called for assistance where shortly after, Officer Dustin Demonte arrived and both officers began two-person CPR.

During the life saving procedure, the victim regained a pulse and began to breathe on his own.  He was later transported to a medical facility for treatment.

Thanks to Officers Levine and Demonte, the victim in the incident survived and is doing well.  For their life-saving efforts, the two officers were awarded the lifesaving commendation and named polices officers of the year for the Bristol Police Department.
