(Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - Next Tuesday is primary day in Connecticut.

Secretary of the State Denise Merrill says there are about two dozen primaries being held for municipal offices across the state--that includes hotly contested races for mayor in Hartford, Middletown and New Haven.

Those who want to vote need to be registered with a party.

Merrill says her office has, over the last decade or so, tried to make it easier for folks to register, including online.

She stresses it's these local races that impact voters directly on issues like property taxes, schools and roads.

To register for next week's municipal primary elections, go online to ct.gov/sots or to your local city or town hall to register.
