(New Haven, Conn./WTIC) - The presence the Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus in Connecticut has officials taking precautions.
Dr. Ted Andreadis, director of the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in New Haven, says EEE activity is up across the Northeast.
He says the mosquito that carries the virus is found primarily in hardwood, freshwater swamps.
EEE was recently detected in Madison and at a couple of campgrounds in Pachaug Forest inVoluntown.
To that end, Andreadis says spraying of the latter area is scheduled for Monday evening.
He says the EEE virus activity is up in neighboring Massachusetts and New York State, as well as inDeleware.
