BRISTOL, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A freight train partially derailed in Bristol Wednesday morning.
Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu says the train was hauling construction debris out of the Waterbury-Naugatuck area. Six of seven cars derailed and five of them tipped over on tracks that parallel Rt. 72, said firefighters. There were no hazardous materials on the train and there's no threat to nearby residents, said the mayor.
The partial derailment occurred around 6:30 a.m., she said.
Firefighters remained at the scene. Crews were working to right the cars. It's a process that could take three to five days.
