(WTIC-AM) -- State lawmakers are again trying to ban so-called ghost guns.
Democratic Judiciary Committee Co-chair Steve Stafstrom says the proposal honors the intent of Connecticut's existing firearms law.
"If you want to possess a gun in the state of Connecticut, you have to pass a background check, and the gun has to be serialized," Stafstrom said. "Being able to go on the internet, buy pieces of the gun, and assemble it at home, circumvents the intent of the law, and should be absolutely outlawed and prohibited here in Connecticut."
Ten Republicans joined Democrats in co-introducing the measure in the Connecticut House.
Ghost guns are firearm parts that are purchased without a serial number, then assembled into a working gun.
The Judiciary Committee is considering several firearms-related bills, including one that gives police officers the authority to inspect a gun permit if someone is openly-carrying a firearm.
