HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ Governor Ned Lamont has announced Connecticut will implement a fine for some COVID-19 violations.

A $100.00 fine will apply to mask violations. A $500.00 fine will apply to organizing a large gathering, with attendees facing a $250.00 fine. Under current order, gatherings are limited to 25 people indoors and 100 people oudoors.

Connecticut Chief Operating Officer Josh Geballe says local municipalities, law enforcement, and health departments requested the ability to fine. He says the fines are a step down from possible misdemeanor charges, which could mean an arrest for someone.

The fines are expected to go into effect this week, but the state has not provided a specific date yet.
